Supplies

Below is the SoulPerSuit companion for the study for the book of Ruth. We also recommend Sandra Glahn's Coffee Cup Bible Study, Premium Roast with Ruth.

WEEK 1 (top)

Shuffle the Deck

1. Recipe. Create a decorative recipe card. Include your favorite bread or vegetable recipe. Include words or pictures about where the recipe came from and why it’s your favorite. What’s its story?

2. Friendship Token. Remember friendship jewelry (Mizpah coin shown)? Create your own version of a friendship token (jewelry, card, fabric, etc.) using an image, word, phrase, song, etc. that represents friendship to you.

Group Option:

1. Think about what Ruth's life must have been like - her family, growing up, her religion, travel, home life. What exactly are all the circumstances surrounding Ruth at the time she has to make a decision to stay in Moab or go the Bethlehem with Naomi (social, economic, spiritual, cultural, etc.)

2. On page 37 of Premium Roast with Ruth it says, “When God allows suffering it’s to bring about something better in the long run.” Do you believe this is true? Always? Why or why not?

3. On page 9 of Premium Roast with Ruth: "Describe circumstances in your life or others, which seemed like chance but you later recognized as sovereignty of God."

Play Your Hand (top)
Decorate a playing card or a playing-card-sized piece of paper or cardboard with something associated with the following:

1. A time when you lost hope in your security (spiritually, financially, emotionally, physically, etc.)

2. How you think Ruth felt in leaving her home town for a foreign land.

3. Naomi’s felling of emptiness in returning to her home town and the people who knew her.

4. Like on page 13 of Premium Roast with Ruth, an example of your own personal cycle of misery.
